On the first day of February, a Thursday to remember, Lifelites had the privilege of spending time with music icon Rick Wakeman at EACH Treehouse Hospice in Ipswich. We were there for a band practice music therapy session, infused with a Scottish twist, where children and families were immersed in an engaging and interactive musical journey.

On Thursday, 1st February, Lifelites had the honour of joining music legend Rick Wakeman at EACH Treehouse Hospice in Ipswich for a band practice music therapy session with a Scottish theme, engaging children and families in an interactive musical experience.

Rick, world-renowned for his keyboard prowess as a member of Yes and as a solo artist, has a remarkable career spanning over five decades, releasing more than 90 solo albums across various genres.

His induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame highlights his significant contribution to music and his influence on musicians around the world. Recently announcing his farewell solo tour, the Lifelites team was thrilled to see him perform an incredible live set in London in February, which included a full rendition of his number one album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

Rick, a proud Freemason, has continued to support Lifelites as a patron for many years and has been the driving force behind our annual Christmas appeal, raising tens of thousands of pounds to help children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Rick commented: “Lifelites is pretty unique amongst freemasonry and they have taken the charity to heart. I really like Lifelites and what it’s doing and what it is achieving. I am happy to remain the masonic charity spokesperson for Lifelites.”

During the music therapy session, Rick got to meet some of the children and families we support, as well as trying out our innovative Soundbeam technology, which allows children of all abilities to make music and sounds through movement. It was an amazing opportunity to combine his passion for music and support for the charity.

“The one thing about music: music enters your life and becomes a major part. It has been my life.” Rick continued.

At Lifelites, our dedication to enhancing the lives of children with life-limiting conditions through technology and music therapy is unwavering. Rick’s support emphasises the transformative impact of assistive technology, helping children and their families create lasting memories.
