Role: Treasurer (Trustee)
Location: 60, Great Queen St, WC2B 5AZ (mostly remote commitment)
Term: 3 years initial term subject to annual re-appointment by Trustees
Commitment: 2-4 hours per month, and up to a day when required to attend meetings and to support audit.
Purpose of the role
The Treasurer provides oversight of Lifelites’ financial affairs, ensuring sustainable budgeting, financial controls and regulatory compliance. The Treasurer will also support the Charity to develop short and long-term financial plans to align to the Lifelites 2023-28 Strategy. This role will involve close working with the Chief Executive and the MCF finance department who provide accountancy support.
About you
You are a qualified, experienced, respected accountant with a passion for children’s services. You will have a strong understanding of charity finance, investments and financial planning.
Key responsibilities
In addition to your duties as a Trustee, the duties of the Treasurer are:
- To ensure that the organisation has regular management accounts and forecasts to inform decision-making.
- To present financial reports to the Board.
- To advise on the resourcing of Lifelites’ strategic plan.
- To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.
- To contribute to Lifelites’ fundraising strategy.
- To ensure that Lifelites has an appropriate reserves policy.
- To ensure that Lifelites has an appropriate investments policy.
- To attend the MCF Investment Committee as a member, and to monitor Lifelites investment activity, ensuring consistency with Lifelites’ policies and legal responsibilities.
- To ensure that annual financial statements are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, e.g. the Charity Commission.
- To ensure that the accounts are scrutinised through the annual audit and any recommendations are implemented.
- To liaise with any paid staff about financial matters.
Person Specification
- Strong numeracy and experience in finance is essential.
- A finance/accountancy qualification is essential, including Diploma in Charity Accounting or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Accountant qualification is desirable.
- Experience of charity finance and fundraising.
- Ability to analyse financial information and trends.
- Ability to make evidence-based recommendations for Board and staff consideration.
- Ability to translate financial information for non-financial people.
