Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Project Summary
At Birmingham Children’s Hospital, our Palliative Care and Bereavement Team supports around 250 children every year with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Many patients face long hospital stays, complex medical needs and limited ability to engage in traditional play. Magnolia House, our dedicated palliative care and bereavement centre, provides a safe space for families to connect and access respite.
With Lifelites technology, including EyeGaze systems, Mini Magic Carpet, tilt table, PODs, iPads, Cosmo switches, Oddballs and a GoPro, our team can bring immersive, accessible play and sensory experiences directly to patients on the wards or in Magnolia House. The equipment will be used daily to facilitate play, memory-making, sibling sessions and meaningful family interactions, helping children express themselves, reduce stress and enjoy fun, stimulating experiences.
This technology will create moments of joy and connection, ensuring children are kids first and patients second, while supporting wellbeing, engagement and creating cherished family memories.
