Comedian and ex-King of the Jungle, Joe Pasquale and infamous keyboard supremo, Rick Wakeman have become Patrons for the charity Lifelites helping them to raise awareness of the specialist technology they provide to children in hospices.
Through the magic of technology, Lifelites gives life-limited and disabled children in hospices opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have. The cutting edge equipment empowers young people, to learn and play, be creative, control something for themselves and to communicate - for as long as it is possible.
Keyboard player and composer Rick Wakeman took a rare break from tinkling the ivories as he performed a solo with some of Lifelites' life enhancing technology. Better known for his distinctive on stage persona with 70s group "Yes", on this occasion neither hands nor keyboard were required as Rick discovered the novelty of using his head - to work a computer. Rick Wakeman has been elected King Rat of the Grand Order of Water Rats for the second year last night (23rd November) at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
On his visit to Lifelites Rick said: “Working with Lifelites is going to be very special to me. To be able to help provide children facing life threatening challenges with the opportunity to experience the magic of technology in the way that many of us take for granted is indeed a wonderful thing– to me that's simply Magic! I’m honoured to be invited to be a patron”
Joe Pasquale put his jokes aside and said: “I am delighted to support such a very worthwhile charity. As a show business personality you do get asked to support so many charities but unfortunately you simply cannot support them all, but Lifelites is marvellous, quietly beavering away providing kids with limited life expectancy unique experiences in learning and fun technology, something that would be normally denied to them. – Lifelites certainly has my support.”
Simone Enefer-Doy, Chief Executive of Lifelites, said: “We’re over the moon that Joe and Rick have chosen to support Lifelites. Anything that can help raise our profile is very welcome and these two popular icons couldn’t be better. We’re really grateful to them for lending us their time and backing and look forward to working with them.”
