We work with both the children and young adults at this Newcastle based hospice and last provided some equipment in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Mathew's is a young adult at St Oswald's Children's Hospice - here is how Lifelites were able to help him.
Matthew comes home to St Oswald’s
Children’s hospices are special places where children and their families can be looked after from birth to 18 years old. Their families can stay with their child or take a break on their own. Hospices have many facilities that simply would not be available elsewhere.
Matthew has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and had been attending St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice. However, when he turned 18, the hospice had to say that they could no longer look after him as they did not have the correct facilities for someone of his age.
Astoundingly, since having to leave the hospice, this young man has been receiving short breaks in a facility for older people and those with neuro disabilities. He took to spending all him time on his own in his room just using his laptop.
So when the possibility of redesigning some space at the hospice came up, the natural idea was to look at the opportunity of providing facilities for young adults who needed their support.
The fabulous new fun and educational technologies provided by Lifelites is just what they need to give them an enjoyable stay along with all the help that comes from having the support of their specialist care workers at the hospice.
We provide our magical technology to children and young people using every children's hospice service across the British Isles. Every four years we provide a brand new package to each hospice, and this year we hope to donate to the hospices listed below.
